Ampersand Claybord is made using Ampersand’s “True Artist Hardboard™ and Archival Seal™ technology”. The cradles are hand built with premium grade 13-ply birch plywood which allows for maximum stability and a clean finished look. The kaolin clay ground formula is similar to that used in the renaissance, the panel is sanded down to an ultra-smooth and highly absorbent finish. 

The Ampersand Claybord is favoured by fine and graphic artists as you can use an array of techniques and tools on it’s clay surface. The panels themselves are acid-free and 3mm deep allowing for ease of storage and framing. The panel is perfect for use with Oil & Acrylic Paints, it can be used with most mediums including Modelling Pastes, Gloss & Matt Mediums and Texture Gels. 

We recommend this panel is perfect for mixed media techniques and can be used for fine detail painting. The clay coating that is extremely smooth makes it perfect for graphic design work. In a manner similar to lino cut, you can also scrap away sections to add some texture and effect which is perfect for experimental use. Designed for Oil and Acrylic painting in mind, this panel is highly recommended for any level of artist.
