Clairefontaine Pastelmat Single Sheets are made within the Clairefontaine paper mill in Meurthe, France. The paper contains long natural unbleached virgin fibres, making this paper 100% natural and bio-degradable. It is also PEFC certified from sourced, recyclable materials so it is very eco-friendly and has a unique mechanical strength and flexibility. The sheets are pH neutral and acid-free. Each page is 360gsm and is a very high-quality paper for pastels, charcoal, pencils and all mixed-media as it retains pigments well. This paper has the added bonus of being gentle on both fingers and blending tools and you can rub out areas of pastel or wet the paper and it will retain colours. 

The Clairefontaine Pastelmat Sheets are cut-edge which provides a clean edge to the paper and comes in two sizes of 50cm x 70cm and 24 x 32 c.m.. Available in seven colours; Anthracite, Brown, Dark Grey, Light Grey, Maize, Sand and White.

We recommend that this paper is perfect for pastels and mixed-media techniques and also works especially well with charcoal and pencils. The velvety surface of pastel mat gives better adhesion, retaining pigments without the need for heavy fixing in between layers which means colours will be vibrant. Because it is 360gsm it has a very thick weight and can easily be used for wet art techniques as well, however, we would suggest it is best for pastel and charcoal.
