Arches Aquarelle Watercolour Blocks are made and produced with paper from the Arches paper mill in the Vosges, France. The pad contains 20 sheets of Cylinder Mould Made, internally gelatin sized paper. These sheets have a neutral pH size (internally) which makes them genuinely acid-free. Each page is 300gsm (140lb) which is designed to be used with Watercolours. The paper varies in texture with Rough, Hot and Not press available and all paper is white in colour.

Arches Aquarelle Blocks are cut-edge which provides a clean edge to the paper. The cover is paperback, easy to remove and acts more as a basic cover for the paper. The pad is glued on four sides and pages can be easily removed for stretching with a kraft knife. The pad can also open-flat. The block is thick and a great accessory if you are interested in trying Watercolour and is a great work surface for an artist looking to explore higher end materials in their process. The blocks are available in 12 x 9 Inch and 16 x 12 Inch sizing.

Watercolour paper is available in three textures. Cold press or ‘Not’ which has a slight texture, Rough which has a heavily textured and sometimes uneven surface, and Hot press which has a smooth even surface.

We recommend this block for watercolour, wet on wet techniques as well as inks. Due to it being 300gsm (140lb), it is classed as a fairly heavyweight paper and will take watercolour or any other similar wet technique well, as the paper won’t easily buckle. We would not suggest any heavier medium such as oil or acrylic, however pastels and sketching materials will work great on this paper.
